005A COVID Spring 2026 COHORTS

005A COVID Spring 2026 COHORTS

Notes
The latest version of 005A COVID Spring 2026 COHORTS is v11.0
This folder is the successor to PCIT's original COVID vaccination programme folders, and forms part of the 005 COVID vaccination programme collection of search folders.

Searches

This folder contains 4 cohort searches which provide a basis for searches in the other COVID vaccination search folders.

Warning
These searches should not be used for recalls as they do not include any rules to exclude those who have already been vaccinated in the current season.

CVP-A21) Patients living in a care home
All registered patients who have a current status of living in a care home according to PCN DES codes.  Practices may also wish to customise this search to capture patients living in residential institutions not covered by the PCN DES by editing the criteria in rules 5 and 6 to capture patients living at a specific address.

Info
Any patients on the list who do NOT currently live in a CQC registered care/residential/nursing home should be coded as 'lives in own home'. This then aligns with the PCN DES requirements and ensures the patient is picked up in other cohorts if eligible.

Alert
This list shows all patients coded as living in a care home, it cannot distinguish between care homes registered for older adults and those registered for other purposes such as younger adults, learning disabilities or mental health.  Only patients living in care homes registered for older adults are eligible for the COVID Spring 2026 booster although some patients living in other homes may be eligible for other reasons such as immunosuppression.

Notes
To check if a care home is registered for older adults - go to the CQC website to search for the home and look at the Registration Details page for that home.  The Service Specialism section will show the types of residents the home is registered to support and whether or not this includes "adults over 65 years".  Note many homes have multiple specialisms so it is not always obvious from looking just at the ages of the current residents.

CVP-A22) Older patients (75 or over)
All registered patients who are aged 75 or over or who will turn 75 by 30th June 2026.  This search does not include patients who are currently coded as living in a care home.

CVP-A24) Over 6m who are immunosuppressed
All registered patients who are over the age of 6 months and have a code on their record suggesting they are immunosuppressed according to the Green Book. This does not count any codes which have been added to mark the patient as moderate or high risk to a COVID infection.

Patients with conditions that may "require long term immunosuppressive treatment" such as Rheumatoid arthritis and SLE should be checked carefully before invitation. Some of these patients may be managed under secondary care and have hospital issued medication which it not recorded on EMIS (ie: these patients would be eligible), but others may be on the disease register but do not currently take immunosuppressive medication to manage the condition (these patients probably are not eligible). There are no codes to exclude a patient from this cohort.

Info
We have also included patients with asplenia or rare inherited anaemia in this search - this represents the row below immunosuppression in Table 3 of the Green Book

CVP-A28) Eligible housebound patients
A search is provided to find all housebound patients which fall into one of the above categories. Being housebound in itself does not make the patient eligible for the COVID vaccination. The housebound search is only separated out to benefit recall and invitation
