022 Meds Management: DOAC and Valvular AF

The DOAC and valvular AF search and report are designed to identify patients being prescribed a DOAC who may be unsuitable for this type of anticoagulant.

The DOAC and valvular AF folder forms part of 022 Meds Management

DOACs are only licensed for non-valvular AF and should NOT be used in those with valvular AF; warfarin should be used instead. The search identifies patients with an active course of a DOAC where there is coded evidence of a heart valve defect.  There was a National Patient Safety alert which highlighted the risks of this.

Notes
This folder should only be run using today's date to gather the most up-to-date information, but could theoretically be run retrospectively using a relative run date to see if any patients have been picked up in the past.
