Indicator definition
Indicator ID
Description
AST005
The contractor establishes and maintains a register of patients with asthma, aged 6 years or over, excluding patients with asthma who have been prescribed no asthma-related drugs in the preceding 12 months.
What are the criteria for this indicator?
In order to be included in AST005, patients must have:
An asthma diagnosis before the end of the current QOF year
Had asthma related treatment in the 12 months up to the end of the current QOF year (i.e. at any stage during the current QOF year)
No "asthma resolved" code since the last asthma diagnosis
Be 6 years old or above
What are the common pitfalls/what do I need to watch out for?
Patients must have had asthma medication during the QOF year to be included on the asthma register. Therefore those patients who have had an occasional inhaler issued towards the end of the contract yearand haven't had an asthma review will adversely affect your QOF performance.
