Covid 19 Patient Status Alerts

Covid 19 Patient Status Alerts

Overview/Purpose

  1. Eligible for COVID booster Patient Status Alert:   Alerts clinicians when patients aged over 75, who have not been invited, have not received the vaccine and have not declined it, are eligible for the Spring 2026 COVID booster.
  2. Consider Patient for Covid-19 Booster Patient Status Alert:   Alerts clinicians to review patients aged under 75, who may be eligible for the COVID booster following further assessment, such as care home residents or patients who are immunosuppressed.    The alert combines these groups into one prompt, making it easier to identify potentially eligible patients, reduce missed opportunities, and support efficient vaccination reviews.

What does it do?

  • The alerts display icons  and  on patient's demographic banner at the top right of the screen and on the Home screen with a prompt message.
  • When the alert is displayed, users can discuss the vaccination with the patient and offer appointment booking where appropriate. If the patient wishes to decline, users can click on the alert to launch the Vaccination Admin template and record a COVID decline code.

Why is it important?

They remind users to offer the Spring COVID booster vaccination to eligible patients, helping to protect them against COVID while also improving uptake across the eligible cohort.

They also support clinicians by highlighting patients who may require a COVID eligibility review but could otherwise be missed during routine care. By prompting users at the point of care, they help ensure eligible at-risk patients are identified and considered for vaccination in a timely manner, while also supporting efficient delivery of the COVID programme.

What does it look like?

System Dependencies

This Patient Status Alert depends on clinicians accurately coding COVID-19 vaccinations, declined offers of vaccination, and care home residency status. Clinicians should be made aware of the importance of recording this information correctly, as it directly affects the accuracy of the alert.
