How to locate Optional Handy Protocols and Activate these
This applies to all users that have PCIT resources shared through a Resource Publisher (RP) data-sharing agreement
PCIT publish all of our standard protocols and templates as Active in your surgery. We also publish our suite of Optional Handy Protocols, however these are "inactive" in your surgery so they will not pop-up until activated. This article will explain how to find these and activate them
How to locate Handy Protocols in your surgery's EMIS Web
You can see which resources have been published activate these from your end following this guide:
- Firstly, after logging into your EMIS site navigate to the Resource Publisher module. You can do this by clicking the EMIS bubble, hovering over Configuration and clicking Resource Publisher. Alternatively if you have the Resource Publisher button at the top of your screen
you can click this.
- This will bring up the following view:

If you are in a sharing agreement through Resource Publisher within your Shared Folders (will appear at the bottom) you will see the "Primary Care IT Limited" (Highlighted blue below). This is where our published resources will appear.
- Selecting this folder you see 2 subfolders (If you have an Essentials package you will only see (3a) Published Global Resources)

- Within 3a you will see all of our standard PrimaryCare IT Toolset (+OneResults, OneMonitoring and CQC Resources if Enhanced or Premium)

- To locate the PCIT Optional Handy Protocols you need to go: (3a) Published Global Resources > Handy Protocols > Optional

- You will see a list of protocols.
- These will all be in an Inactive state (Greyed Out)

- Or, if they have already been activated the Status of these protocols will be Active in black text

- Click the protocol of choice so it is highlighted blue
- Click the green Activate tick at the top of your screen

- The protocol is now active. Note that it will not immediately start appearing for other users in your surgery - it will appear the next time they refresh EMIS Web, which is done when they log out and back in, or manually refresh Resource Publisher.
Change management considerations
Fitting your practice
As with all alerts you need to consider the volume of pop
ups you currently have in operation: there is a real risk of "alert
fatigue" if you have too many. This will differ from practice to
practice.
