Overview/Purpose

This protocol ensures that users are informed of safety related to metformin prescribing with impaired or non monitored eGFR

What does it do?

  • Checks:
    • If no eGFR recorded
    • If an impaired eGFR that may need to be considered when prescribing is present
    • If the eGFR has reached the stage that warfarin is contraindicated

Why is it important?

This protocol reminds users of the requirements to monitor eGFR for patients on metformin as well as be aware of the risks of impaired eGFR or where Metformin is contraindicated because of an eGFR < 30 in keeping with the CKS guidelines
