Overview/Purpose

This protocol acts as a safety net to ensure that when a consultation is closed, clinicians have properly safety-netted the patient for their urgent suspected cancer referral.

What does it do?

  1. Automatically prompts the user to confirm that the patient has been appropriately referred under the Suspected Cancer pathway before the consultation is closed.
  2. Generates a task for the secretary to process the referral, ensuring no delays.
  3. Provides an additional layer of safety to ensure suspected cancer cases are not missed in administrative processes.

Why is it important?

This protocol ensures timely and appropriate referrals for suspected cancer patients, supporting patient safety and aligning with the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) indicators. It also assists in meeting Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements for safeguarding patients at risk.
