    To allow staff to check patients to see if they are eligible for a pneumonia vaccination

What does it do?

When triggered, the protocol evaluates:
  1. The patient's age.
  2. Whether the patient has already received a pneumonia vaccine.
  3. Any clinical characteristics that might necessitate a second vaccination.
  4. Based on these criteria, it guides the user step-by-step to determine if the patient is eligible for a pneumonia vaccination.

Why is it important?

The pneumococcal vaccine provides vital protection against serious bacterial infections, including:
  1. Pneumonia (lung infection).
  2. Meningitis (infection of the brain and spinal cord).
  3. Sepsis (life-threatening response to infection).
It also helps prevent related illnesses, such as sinusitis and ear infections. The vaccine is recommended for:
  1. Babies.
  2. Adults aged 65 and over.
  3. Individuals at higher risk due to certain medical conditions.
By ensuring eligible patients receive this vaccine, the protocol helps:
