Steroids and No Bone Sparing Agent (HP085)

Purpose:
Where a patient has had more than 3 courses of steroids in the last 12 months and hasn't had any bone protection prescribed, this protocol alert will highlight the need for review.

What does it actually do?

The protocol performs the following functions:
  1. Checks to see the patient has had a reason for a bone sparing agent not to be used added
  2. Identifies patients who have all of the following characteristics:
    1. had 3 or more courses of steroids in the last 12 months
    2. not on any bone sparing oral agents 
    3. has not had a bone sparing infusion

System Dependencies:
The use of this protocol depends on practices using the clinical system to record all issues of steroid medication (including OOH/A&E etc so there is accurate data in the system)
