Both PPI and Thyroxine alert (HP096)

Overview/Purpose

The Both PPI and Thyroxine alert is a protocol alert within EMIS Web, which has been designed to alert where patients are taking levothyroxine and a proton pump inhibitor

What does it do?

An alert will show on loading the patient record if the patient has a raised TSH as their last result (or there is no result) and both a PPI and levothyroxine are being prescribed

Why is it important?

PPI medication has been shown to reduce the absorbtion of levothyroxine meaning the patient may not be adequately treated with levothyroxine if a PPI has been commenced.
