Vitamin D result checker (HP178)

Vitamin D result checker (HP178)

Overview/Purpose

This protocol helps to manage Vitamin D results in a streamlined and consistent way

Resource type:

Base
Optional
Localised

Product

This protocol is part of the PCIT toolset product

What does it do?

This protocol is manually launched and can be found for ease within the OneLauncher Prescriber.
It will assess any recently received Vitamin D result to see if it is:
  1. Normal
  2. Deficient
  3. Insufficient
Depending on the outcome of the above, the user will be shown options for managment.
For those who are insufficient, the user is provided with the option of creating a letter to send to them informing them of the result, advice about what it means and giving them details of where to obtain over the counter vitamin D and how to get safe exposure to sunlight.
For those who are deficient, the user is provided with the option of generating a prescription (in appropriate formulation) and then creating a letter to send to the patient informing them of the result, the need for a prescription and then advice about where to obtain over the counter vitamin D and how to get safe exposure to sunlight.

Why is it important?

This protocol will save clinicians time when managing blood test results, standardise the practice approach to management and also save consultations with patients to discuss the Vitamin D results.
Contrast this streamlined approach with
  1. a clinician seeing the result
  2. having to look up the guidelines
  3. send a task to reception to book an appointment
  4. reception having to contact the patient and book an appointment
  5. the appointment itself
and you can easily see how this can save significant time for a practice.

What does it look like?

The protocol is complex so it is impossible to show every eventuality.  The following will give you an idea:

If the result has already been reviewed by the protocol:

If there is no recent vitamin D result:

If the result is deficient:

If the result is insufficient:
