Action chaser Salbutamol adding to register in last 3m of year (HP182)

Purpose:

This protocol will:

  1. Make sure performance against "AST007 - asthma with a review in the last 12 months" is optimised

What does it actually do?

The protocol performs the following functions:
  1. When issuing an inhaler the patient details are assessed by the protocol
  2. If the patient
    1. hasn't had an inhaler issued this year
    2. it is in the last quarter of the year 
    3. hasn't had an asthma review
  3. The user is notified that their action will add the patient to "AST007 - asthma with a review in the last 12 months" as not achieving the indicator and prompts them to consider booking an appointment.

What does it look like?





System Dependencies:

Relies on using the clinical system to record and issue inhalers as well as record asthma care.

Fitting your practice

Your team need to be aware that issuing inhalers can add the patient to the asthma register, and that in the last quarter of the year this can mean that asthma reviews are missed.  This can affect performance for QOF.
