What does it do?

The protocol alert appears for patient who have:
  1. Invalid ethnicity codes
  2. No ethnicity recorded
  3. Declined to state ethnicity

If you double click the alert, it will open a template containing valid codes to code the ethnicity for the patient (see below screenshot of the template).

Why is it important?

It is important to code ethnicity in general practice, in line with enhanced service contracts and as a best practice exercise. Therefore, this alert will support the accurate entry of ethnicity.

All images contain test patients. No real data is used.

Change management considerations

This is a protocol alert, therefore it is beneficial for team members who will see it to know what it entails. We would suggest showing them this support article prior to it being activated in your practice. Make sure team members are aware they can double click the protocol alert to complete the ethnicity status, as this saves time.

It is also worth reviewing your existing protocols to check if this alert is similar to any other protocol alerts that are activated in your practice, then considering which protocol you want to keep active.
