Colorectal pathway including FIT prior to suspected cancer referral (HP290)

Purpose:

This protocol will:

  1. work in conjunction with the "Suspected Colorectal Cancer" Templates to ensure FIT testing is undertaken and safety netted prior to referral

What does it actually do?

The protocol performs the following functions:
  1. Checks to see if any codes have been entered into the record to add the patient onto the Suspected Colorectal Cancer referral pathway
  2. If the patient has been entered onto the Suspected Colorectal Cancer pathway and a referral or outcome of the pathway has not been recorded, the protocol will show the user information about what has happened to the patient.  This includes:
    1. the date they were assessed for urgent colorectal referral
    2. If they have been given a FIT test, or if one has been arranged for collection (via reception) by a clinician
    3. The plan for when the FIT test has been returned (if entered by the clincian)
    4. Any record of FIT test results
    5. Any record of any referrals
  3. If the patient has had the requirements met prior to referral, the PCIT tool will flag to the user that a referral can now be made.  This includes:
    1. A FIT test being declined
    2. A FIT test being contraindicated
    3. A FIT test being completed in the last 21 days
  4. If the FIT test is out of range for the referral needed, the user will be informed
  5. If the user double clicks on the alert, they will be taken to a PCIT template that will allow updating of the information.
  6. The information in this alert has corresponding searches within 025B PCN DES | Cancer | Suspected cancer referrals - FIT test audit so you can easily audit your performance in this area.

What does it look like?

If the patient is on the Colorectal referral pathway the following alert will be shown:

When hovered over, the following information appears:

When double clicked, the following PCIT template is shown:

The use of this alert depends on the user making use of the PCIT Suspected Colorectal Cancer templates to record activity leading up to referral.
