RSV vaccination clinic (HP338)

RSV vaccination clinic (HP338)

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccination clinic (HP338)

Overview/Purpose

This protocol allows users to quickly record RSV vaccinations in older adults (those aged 75 to 79) during a mass vaccination clinic.

Resource type:

Base
Optional
Localised

Product

This protocol is part of the PCIT toolset product.

What does it do?

This protocol is available for users to launch manually during a mass vaccination clinic to quickly record the relevant information relating to the RSV vaccine, such as batch number and expiry date.
  1. Select patient
  2. Launch protocol via F12
  3. There are a number of aspects this protocol checks for (in the background) prior to you seeing a message:
    1. Whether the vaccine has already been administered
    2. Eligibility criteria
    3. Allergies or contraindications
  4. A popup offering one or more batch numbers will appear
  5. The user will select an option, then press which arm the vaccine is being administered into
Individual users will need to add HP338 to their F12 pick lists

Why is it important?

This protocol will help team members quickly and efficiently identify if a patient is eligible for their RSV vaccination. This is important because it saves time within general practice, as well as ensuring accuracy.

What does it look like?

See below screenshot which shows an example of the protocol in use:

The first box to appear when a patient is eligible for an RSV vaccination is one offering the batch numbers available in the Practice:

Having selected one, the choice of Left or Right arm is given:

If the patient being seen is NOT eligible for an RSV vaccination the below message will show:

There are other messages which can appear when using this protocol, for example, if:
  1. The patient has a code suggesting an allergy or a contraindication to the RSV vaccination
  2. The patient has already received an RSV vaccination
These additional messages then have relevant options after them to support the user in taking the appropriate action.

How to get it

You can request an optional protocol to be installed. Unlike many tools, this protocol must be installed directly into your site rather than being shared via Resource Publishing. If you would like to request installation please click here to submit a ticket.
This protocol requires some customisation by the Practice to maintain the batch numbers.
  1. Locate and edit HP338 RSV vaccination clinic, which will be found in the following location within Resource Publisher: Primary Care IT/Handy Protocols/Optional/
  2. Move the view to the right hand side so the following nodes can be seen:

  3. Double click on Multiple Choice Question (1) to edit
  4. Edit the top 'ADD HERE' and type the first batch number in use.

  5. If only one batch number is in use, you can delete the second 'ADD HERE' or rename it with a space or dash so users won't see it.
  6. Press OK
  7. Double click on BOTH Add Coded Data nodes (2) to add the Manufacturer, Batch Number and Expiry Date details.

Do not delete the injection site qualifier!
  8. Repeat for the other node as the information is repeated for both left and right arms
  9. If a second batch is available, double click the Add Coded Data nodes (3) to add in the information.
Due to how Resource Publisher distributes updates, changes made by one user may not filter through to other users until the following morning. If there is a chance that one batch will be finished before a second batch needs to be started during a clinic, ensure that the protocol is updated the day before.
