NHS Health Check search rules

Info
!!This is an internal article to support queries regarding NHS Health Check eligibility!!

The NHS Health Check eligibility searches found in 034C Eligible for NHS Health Check are based on the latest Health Check programme guidance which is a written document rather than business rules. An old set of business rules exist which reference Read codes which helped to define some of the logic.

Eligibility is based on age at event (40-74 years inclusive), with a number of exclusions based on coded conditions. These can be found in PA-300b) Excluded cardiovascular conditions

Info
In addition to the conditions listed above, patients on the Palliative care register are excluded in PA-301) Eligible for a NHS health check to avoid some inappropriate invitations.

Alert
Some users may question why patients with some types of hyperlipidaemia or hypercholesterolaemia are included in the eligible search. This is due to the guidance documents only listing Familial hypercholesterolaemia as an exclusion. PCIT has previously reached out to the national programme team to confirm this.
Such patients with a history of hyperlipidaemia appearing in the eligible search will NOT be on a lipid lowering drug, so an NHS Health Check may be an ideal opportunity to check cholesterol level if there is no mechanism in the Practice to recall these patients.
