Introduction to the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS)
Our Development team has incorporated the Greene Climacteric Scale into our SystmOne menopause template. This article provides brief guidance about this tool and where to find this on the system.

What is the calculator for and who produced it?
The Greene Climatic Scale (GCS) is a tool to help identify where a patient is on their menopause journey, produced by Dr Greene. It can be used to assess in different symptoms, before and after menopause treatment. The three main areas that are being measured are 1. Psychological 2. Physical and 3. Vasomotor.
How should it be used?
The calculator should be used during the menopause and HRT review.
How does the scoring system work?
It asks about patient's menopausal symptoms and allocates points for different symptoms. It provides a scale on the severity of problem as follows:
Severity of problem Score
0.....None
1.....Mild
2.....Moderate
3.....Severe
Where to find the GCS on SystmOne?
One Template Non-Prescriber template Launcher on the toolbar
2. Select ‘Menopause’ template
3. Select 'History and Examination' button or click on the third tab of the template.
4) The link to the Greene Climatic Scale as well as very useful information about this clinical tool is found at the bottom right of the template as shown.
5. Once you have obtained the score, you can record the results in 'Record Greene Climateric Assessment Score' section
