Referral task to secretary
Referral task to secretary
Type: Protocol
Overview/Purpose
This protocol acts as a safety net to ensure that when a consultation is closed, clinicians have properly safety-netted the patient for their referral.
What does it do?
- Automatically prompts the user to confirm that a task has been sent to the secretaries to send the referral.
- If the user has not already generated a task the protocol will allow the user to create a task for the secretary to process the referral, ensuring no delays.
Why is it important?
The protocol is designed to support safe and consistent referral management. By prompting the user to send a task to the secretarial team, it ensures that referrals are actioned and directed to the correct service. This reduces the risk of referrals being overlooked and helps streamline the process between clinicians and administrative teams.
What does it look like?
See below screenshot which shows an example of the protocol in use:
System Dependencies
This protocol requires the following:
- Accurate coding of referral letters.
- Staff training to ensure all users understand the importance of the protocol.
System Triggers
System Trigger: Save consultation
Run mode: Always run
Enable trigger for: All clinicians
Change management considerations
Fitting your practice
As with all alerts you need to consider the volume of pop ups you currently have in operation: there is a real risk of "alert fatigue" if you have too many. This will differ from practice to practice.
How to get it
This protocol is automatically installed in your system.
