Funding is typically allocated for referring approximately one-third of patients on the obesity register, based on eligibility criteria as of 31 March 2023. Accurate data entry ensures practices can demonstrate activity and secure funding.
To be eligible for referral, patients must have:
A BMI recorded in the past 2 years
A BMI falling within an eligible category (usually >30 or >27.5 in some populations)
No clinical contraindications, and not declined referral
Practices are expected to:
Record height and weight
Calculate and record BMI
Offer and record a referral to a weight management service
Record declined referrals where applicable
