Indicator definition

Indicator ID

Description

CAN005

The percentage of patients with cancer, diagnosed within the preceding 12 months, who have had the opportunity for a discussion and informed of the support available from primary care, within 3 months of diagnosis.

What do the business rules mean?

What makes a patient eligible?

Patients are eligible for the CAN005 denominator if:
  1. they have been diagnosed with cancer during the current contract year
or
  1. they were diagnosed in the last 3 months of the previous contract year (ie: January-March) but did not have a discussion about support within 3 months following diagnosis

How to achieve the indicator

What will remove patients from eligibility?

  1. Patients for whom cancer care quality indicator care was unsuitable in the contract year
  2. Patients who chose not to receive cancer care in the contact year
  3. Patients who have not responded to at least two cancer care review invitations (at least 7 days apart) in the contract year
  4. Patients who were diagnosed with cancer within the last 3 months of the contract year (they will also appear in next year's denominator)
  5. Patients who were newly registered with the practice within the last 3 months of the contract year

Notes
If a patient achieves the indicator at any point during the year, any exclusions that have also been added are ignored.
