Resource type
Product
What does it do?
- Alerts users to the possibility that the patient lives outside of the catchment area
- Suggests considering whether a home visit is viable based on distance from the Practice
Why is it important?
This protocol helps users to manage expectations prior to offering a visit
What does it look like?
See below screenshot which shows an example of the protocol in use:
System Dependencies
This protocol is dependant on staff adding the code Registered patient lives outside of practice area [824381000000105] at point of registration as suggested by EMIS Now's support article.
System Triggers
System Trigger: Load patient record
Run mode: Always run
Enable trigger for: All job categories
Change management considerations
If your Practice does not routinely add the Out of practice area code, implement this step into the registration process for admin staff. EMIS recommends adding this code as it would be the only way of identifying Out of Area patients in a search.

Searching on the code may bring up patients who had the code added at a previous registered Practice. This alert has been designed to only flag for patients where the code was added by the current registered Practice.
How to get it
This is an optional Handy Protocol. Please submit a ticket to request that it is installed into your system.
HP current version number: 2.0.0
