Helicobacter Eradication automatic (HP050)

Helicobacter Eradication automatic (HP050)

Overview/Purpose

This protocol will help to streamline the prescribing eradication therapy for patients who have a positive helicobacter result

What does it do?

When a positive helicobacter result is recorded the protocol will offer to prescribe eradication therapy for the patient.  The record is checked for allergy to penicillin and the user offered appropriate options based on this information.

Why is it important?

Prescribing helicobacter eradication therapy is complex and usually requires the user to look up the eradication regime for the patient and then manually prescrib each drug, taking considerable time.  This protocol streamlines and standardises that process to save time and ensure accurate prescribing.

What does it look like?

When triggered the following option is shown to the user (as long as they have not already prescribed eradication therapy on the same day:

The user is then asked whether or not it is First-Line treatment.

The next question will depend on any coded penicillin allergies or intolerances on the patient record.
  1. If the patient is not penicillin allergic the following options are shown:

  2. If the patient is penicillin allergic the following options are shown:

Clicking on any of the prescribing options will present pre-defined acute prescriptions to issue, ending with an acute prescription for Omeprazole 20mg for 7 days.
Info
For patients already on a PPI, a prompt will offer the user to decide whether to continue prescribing omeprazole 20mg or take no action if it is determined that the existing PPI is sufficient for gastroprotection.
