Indicator definition

Indicator ID

Description

VI004

The percentage of patients who reached 80 years old in the preceding 12 months, who have received a shingles vaccine between the ages of 70 and 79 years.

What do the business rules mean?

What makes a patient eligible?

Patients are eligible for the VI004 denominator if they turned 80 years old in the contract year or 81 years old if they had received only one dose of Shingrix before the age of 80 (and before the start of the contract year)

How to achieve the indicator

To meet the criteria for VI004, eligible patients must have had either:
  1. a ‘single dose’ shingles vaccination (Zostavax) administered by a GP or other healthcare provider whilst they were aged at least 70 years and less than 80 years of age.
  2. two doses of Shingrix administered whilst they were aged at least 70 years old but not yet 81 years old.

What will remove patients from eligibility?

  1. They have a contraindicated code before the end of the contract year

  2. They have had a shingles declined code added when they were at least 70 but not yet 80, with no subsequent shingles vaccination

  3. They received a first dose of shingles vaccine between age 70 and 80 and then chose not to receive a shingles vaccination before the end of the contract year

  4. If they had their first dose of shingles vaccination before 80, turned 80 in the contract year but haven't had their second dose (these will get picked up in the following year

If a patient achieves the indicator at any point during the year, any exclusions that have also been added are ignored.
