Getting started with Medicus Searches
Resources → Medicus Searches is the search builder for Medicus sites: design patient searches and activity reports here — with code lists, dates, demographics and logic — then export them as upload-ready XML for Medicus, instead of writing them in the clinical system by hand.
Your search list
The manager page lists your searches with their status (draft, active, retired) and totals at a glance. From here you can:
- New Search — open the builder with a blank search
- Transform an EMIS search — convert an existing EMIS search into Medicus format, a big head start if you're migrating from EMIS. Upload the EMIS XML file, or switch to Paste XML and paste it in — useful if your organisation blocks saving XML files to your computer
- Open, duplicate or delete existing searches
Building a search
The builder opens in guided mode, which walks you through defining:
- the population — who the search is about
- the rules — code lists, date ranges, demographics, and AND/OR logic between criteria
Validate as you go; the builder checks the search is structurally sound before export.
From builder to Medicus
When a search is ready, export it as XML and import it into Medicus. Edits in Nexus create new versions, so you always know exactly what's deployed in your clinical system versus what's still draft.
